Mephitis mephitis: is the striped skunks Latin name. The name pertains to a skunk’s definitive weapon system
of defense. A skunk's identifying color design is black with white and typically 2 wide white bands along the back. The striped skunks
range from Mexico to Canada, and dwell in field edges, forest, woods, swamps and suburban regions. The skunk is normally nocturnal,
and will hideout in the wintertime months. Skunks will appear from their dens in the wintertime months particularly during mating
season. The skunks mating season happens between Feb and Mar with their young born approximately sixty-two to sixty-six days later.
Normal litter size are four - six, and at 6 weeks old the young skunks set out making little journeys with their mother when she roams
away to feed. Skunks are omnivores they'll consume almost anything. The striped skunk consumes bird food that is below bird feeders.
